Getting Started


I offer very basic "starter" websites for small businesses and solo-entrepreneurs.  If you need a lot of interactive applications, desire a flash website, high-end web graphics, or have a website that needs daily updates, I am not the web developer for you. 

However, if you are just starting out and want nothing more than a web based brochure or business card, then you are in the right place.

I provide starter websites with simple clean designs. Typically these websites consist of 3-7 pages including: (1) a HOME page; (2) an ABOUT page; (3) a CONTACT US page; and alternatively a PRODUCTS or SERVICES page with OPTIONAL information pages.

I must be clear that I am not a graphic designer, therefore I usually begin by asking the client to pick a website template that they like. This helps to give the client an idea of the colors, design and layout they find most appealing. It is an easy start point.

Getting a website up and running is fairly easy. You just need to follow a few steps.  

Below I have created an outline and step-by-step instructions for getting your website up and running.  I have also provided quite a bit of resources for you to use even if you never work with me personally to setup your website.  With these instructions and resources, you could do it yourself.  If you are so inclined . . . GO FOR IT!

With their system it is very easy to update information related to your website and their customer service is also really good. It is really important to remember NOT to buy any of their other services. Just buy a domain name.

You can also avoid all the other versions of the domain that they offer you like the .info, .org. biz versions of your domain name.

If anyone is going to find your website on the internet, it must be "hosted" on a server (a computer that the internet recognizes when it is looking for websites). Web hosting is fairly inexpensive. The best bang for your buck is BlueHost.

Web Hosting is sold on a month by month or anual basis. Most request that you pay for an entire year up front. At only $6.95 p/mo. it is a really good deal!

DESIGN YOUR WEBSITE


Your website needs a color scheme, layout & design.  You can create it yourself, hire a web designer to do it for you, or purchase a template.  I recommend purchasing a template.  It is fast, easy, cheap or free!
